Kota Kinabalu: Lanun FC prevented Quilmes completing his domination of futsal competitions this season, after emerge as champion Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Invitational Futsal Championship 2009, Tuesday.
The tournament, which took place in the Sports Arena in Borneo, Kolombong Inanam, VI Lanun FC, winning the final, 3-0 against Quilmes resilient.
Other equipment of Quilmes, Quilmes 2000 also was left reeling after being forced to settle for fourth place after his defeat 1-2 against team Akbul in game classification place 3/4/2008.
Quilmes teams aren't strangers among the local teams futsal.
Having dominated much of tournaments throughout the season, the change of winners is a sign of welcome to the organizers of the tournament.
"More Teams are now able to win tournaments and this bodes well for the development of sport. Is a healthy sign that the sport is progressing well.
"Competitive rivalry between teams will help develop the sport more effectively," said AzMan Soaibah President of the organization.
AzMan, said that the organizers of tournament play an important role to provide events in which teams can compete and, he added, was part of UMS ' efforts to help develop the sport in the State.
He said that UMS also was using the tournament as a platform for the selection of players to represent the College for upcoming tournaments at the local, State and national levels.
A total of eight teams participated in the tournament, which began earlier this month.
As tournament champions, FC Lanun received RM500 for their efforts, while Quilmes took RM400 home.
Third and fourth place received RM200 and RM100, respectively, while all winners also received trophies, medals and balls.
Zulfadhi Fikri Azizan represented Sports UMS Unit Chief at the ceremony of award.
